The Golden Globe Award Winners for 2014

by Christopher Barr POSTED ON JANUARY 11, 2015

The 72nd Golden Globe Awards ceremony has aired revealing all its winners of 2014 and many of its losers or as George Clooney would put it in his Cecil B. DeMille award, all the nominees have 'caught the brass ring'. There were a few surprises for sure and their were a few that were locks but over all those that won best actor and actress, best comedy or musical or best drama deserve their wins.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler started out funny as hell
but lost it when they brought out their North Korean female soldier to poke fun at the free speech situation.  It was barely okay the first time this stereo typical Asian person appeared, but to have her reappear two more times ended up being overdone.

The one guy I wanted to win the most won for Birdman, Michael Keaton.  I wished Birdman would have won best picture in the comedy and musical category but I'm just as happy that The Grand Budapest Hotel won.  I'm quite pleased that Richard Linklater won for best director and Boyhood for best motion picture drama.  The film is a historical piece of cinema, with ground breaking ambition.

I liked the TV series Fargo but I was a little surprised that True Detective lost out to this Coen Brothers inspired piece of television.  I personally felt that the characters and the storytelling of True Detective was quite unique and more original than Fargo.

It was really nice to see J.K. Simmons win for Whiplash as well as Julianne Moore for Still Alice.  I actually thought Benedict Cumberbatch would have won for The Imitation Game, I thought The Lego Movie would have won best animated feature.  I figured Amy Adams would win for Big Eyes as well as Kevin Spacey for House of Cards.

Over all the ceremony went well, George Clooney among others paid tribute to the Charlie Hebdo tragedy in Paris quite respectfully.  Tina and Amy were pretty funny and Ricky Gervais stole the show with his 'non' remakes about celebrities in attentance.

The winners are highlighted in red.
